We are all grown up on Star Wars movies and now with the latest reboot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story our kids are growing with the same Star Wars characters. All the movies are really short 🙂 so we soon switch to animated Star Wars tv series but even that finishes fast leaving us wanting more. So, what to do if you just can’t get enough of Star Wars characters, ships, history?
We prepared this list of best Star Wars books 2016 which will get you deeper in Star Wars history.
Best Star Wars Books 2016
Star Wars: Darth Plagueis
It’s pretty much a behind the scenes on everything that was set up to happen in the movie prequels, and it goes to some dark places. Plagueis is there, experimenting on people and corpses, and takes on Palpatine as his sith apprentice, to climb the ranks of galactic politics in his place, while he funds the republic’s destruction. During this time, Palpatine adopts and trains Darth Maul in a secret facility on Coruscant, and we also get to see the beginnings of Count Dooku’s fall to the dark side. Awesome read.
Star Wars: Darth Maul, Shadow Hunter (Star Wars – Legends)
After years of waiting in the shadows, Darth Sidious is taking the first step in his master plan to bring the Republic to its knees. Key to his scheme are the Neimoidians of the Trade Federation. Then one of his Neimoidian contacts disappears, and Sidious does not need his Force-honed instincts to suspect betrayal. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt the traitor down. One of best star wars books.
Cloak of Deception (Star Wars)
Mired in greed and corruption, tangled in bureaucracy, the Galactic Republic is crumbling. In the outlying systems, where the Trade Federation maintains a stranglehold on shipping routes, tensions are boiling over?while back in the comfort of Coruscant, the hub of civilized space and seat of the Republic government, few senators seem inclined to investigate the problem. And those who suspect Supreme Chancellor Valorum of having a hand in the machinations are baffled?especially when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi foil an assassination attempt on the Chancellor.
Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
It’s only a 400-page novelization of the movie, but it’s so well done. The language that the author uses in this work is haunting, the imagery he’s able to weave is of a dark, cold string of events near the end of wartime. A legitimate Greek tragedy. Star Wars at its finest – one of best star wars books!
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Did you want to see more of Vader in the suit, around the time of ROTS? This is the one you want. It picks up directly after the events of III. The Empire is settling in for its new reign, Wookies are enslaved to help build the Death Star… and Anakin is sent to personally execute a handful of Jedi who managed to survive Order 66. Lots of beheadings and amputations in this one.
Path of Destruction (Star Wars: Darth Bane, Book 1)
On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel, a cortosis miner, vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, a far greater destiny awaits him.
Aftermath: Star Wars (Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy)
aking place several months after the battle of Endor, the books shows that the Empire is losing, but by no means defeated, even as the Rebellion transitions into the New Republic and attempts to create a stable democracy in a war-torn galaxy. While the main plot focuses on new Republic hero, Wedge Antilles’s capture by the Empire and his liberation by fellow New Republic operatives, the book also features brief chapters and discussions about the state of the universe, with mentions to Han and Chewbacca, a scene with Luke Skywalker, and the beginnings of a cult-like following for Darth Vader.
Star Wars: The Old Republic – Revan (Star Wars: The Old Republic – Legends)
One thousand years before Anakin Skywalker was born, Darth Bane joined the Sith’s Brotherhood of Darkness and created the Rule of Two: One Sith master shall embody power, and one Sith apprentice will crave it. This launches the brutal, often lethal tension between master and apprentice that is later played out between Darth Vader and Darth Sidious. But before Bane can gain all the knowledge and power of the Sith, he must first select an apprentice—and defeat the rest of the Sith lords.
Star Wars: Red Harvest
Star Wars horror story set in the ancient, old republic times. What’s not to love? Plus the cover art is absolutely phenomenal.
Star Wars – The Thrawn Trilogy (3 Book Series)
The Heir to the Empire series is a must read. Timothy Zahn created a very nice post-ROTJ universe with a host of new characters. Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade to name two. One of best Star Wars Books with a great stroy. New Star Wars characters will get you hooked to the story where you will not be able to stop reading.
Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is my favorite! I thought the book was even better than the movie 🙂
