The worst thing you could say to a parent is to give them unsolicited advice. People know that, but we are all hearing those advice every single day. Sometimes it’s not only annoying but an insult. Well, here are some of the most annoying things people tell parents.
Most Annoying Things People Tell Parents
1. “I could never let someone else raise my kid.”
This is something parents that choose to have careers hear a lot. Drives me up the wall and one day I will lose it. My daughter goes to a daycare where she has fun and learning a lot. She found great friends there and she loves it. But of course, you know better, don’t you?
2. “Technology is just ruining our kids! Back in my day…”.
I hate “Back in my day…” comment and most of the time I don’t even know how to respond. Drives me insane. In my opinion, the world is pretty awesome these days. Not perfect, but a lot better than the days when you could buy another human being at a market. I also love that I can bring my daughter up in the age of technology. That doesn’t mean the nature is not here anymore. She is not glued to her screen. She likes going out even more than watching Minions on her tablet.
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
– Qoute by Socrates, around the 4th century BC.
3. “In our days we didn’t have car seats and our kids turned out just fine”
The is one of the most annoying things! Yes, you got lucky that you weren’t in a car accident, but what about all the parents who weren’t so lucky? I hear this a lot from my older family members and it seems that they just don’t get it how they were in fact really happy that nothing bad happened.
What are the most annoying things people say to you?
People should just keep their comments to themselves when it comes to parenting. Everyone has there own way of raising their child and as long as that child isn’t suffering from it they should just stay out of it unless someone ask for their opinion, right? Not everyone has the same lifestyle!
Just yesterday I told my own dad, “You parent your kids, I’ll parent mine”. It caused some chuckles but I think he got the point.
Oh wow!! Some people have no filter. I cannot believe someone said such a rude comment to you about raising your child! That is not cool. That’s so annoying when people talk about “we didn’t do that back in the day and your fine, I’m fine.” Umm… that doesn’t make it alright. Ugh!
XOXO
I never liked when my grandparents said, “the good old days!” I mean, they fought in wars and one set of mine saw the Great Depression. The world can always be a tough place. We’re all doing what we can do!
Truth! Especially the car seat one…
The car seat one gets me every time. Yes they made it, but there’s a bunch of kids who didn’t make it.
Haha all of those, yes! ANYTHING that ends with, “…and they all turned out fine!” just gets my back up. My mom and grandma were going on about how we all used to be placed on our tummies for sleep and we’re all fine. I just kept my mouth shut and didn’t argue with them but man, drove me nuts!
Oooh and “All you need to do is ___” when you’re having a struggle with something to do with children. Everyone thinks they know the answer and it’s so simple. But every child is different!
LOL, yes, I’ve heard my fair share of these. We each come to the table with our own ideas and perspectives… respect is critical. Every parent, every family, and every child is different.

Wishing you a lovely day.

I totally agree, sometimes folks should just keep their opinions to themselves. Daycare or nursery can really enhance a child’s education and development and I like technology too! I did like the quote from Socrates, very thought provoking! And I particularly agree with the car seat one – hundreds of children died because of the lack of car seats, everyone seems to forget that! Thank you for being a part of our Hearth and Soul Hop community.
I so agree with all of those, technology is just wonderful and kids are cleverer because of it, and able to multi task at such a level because of it x
